FISHING

Located only ¼ mile from Little Pine Motel is the 1600 acre Pine Lake, long regarded as one of the premier fishing lakes in Wisconsin. Here you will hook northern pike, walleye, bass, crappies and many species of panfish. Pine Lake boasts an excellent boat landing on the Northeast shore with ample parking. Fishing from shore is popular at the Wolf River Dam on the south end of the lake. Shore fishing is also available at the National Forest Campground (no fee for day visitors). This is a great area for children to enjoy fishing success at an early age.

ICE FISHING

Pine Lake is one of the most popular ice fishing lakes anywhere! Whether jigging for panfish or enjoying the day in your shanty watching your tip-ups, being “on the ice” is a great way to spend the day. The ice is generally ready for fishermen by mid-December. ATV | UTV

The Little Pine Motel is located at the junction of hundreds of miles of ATV/UTS trails. From right outside your room you can jump on trails that take you in any direction. Forest county, Three Lakes and Hiles all invite ATV/UTV-ers to take advantage of the awesome trails in the Northwoods. Area clubs and counties provide excellent trail maps detailing the area. SNOWMOBILING

Without question, the miles and miles of quality snowmobile trails offered in the Hiles area are among the best in the Northwoods. Area clubs keep our trails in tip-top condition throughout the snowmobile season. Similar to our ATV/UTV trails, the Little Pine Motel is at the center of the snowmobile universe. Imagine riding through the beautiful Nicolet and Chequamegon National Forests with the best snow anywhere! HUNTING

Whether your preference is with your bow or gun, hunting is prime in the Hiles area. The Nicolet National Forest provides an excellent hunting backdrop. Duck, grouse, partridge and geese highlight the fall season. Hunt the Hiles Mill Pond or other outstanding bird areas nearby. Turkeys are becoming much more prevalent in the area and offer a great spring hunting option. Bow and gun season for deer have always drawn avid hunters to the area. Hiles and the Nicolet National Forest have also been great hunting ground for bear.

KAYAKING | CANOEING

Rivers, lakes and streams are in abundance making kayaking one of the fastest growing activities “Up North”. Pack a picnic and make a day of it, or simply go for a quick paddle on neighboring Pine Lake. Rentals are available nearby and public boat landings are easily accessible.

SNOWSHOEING | CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

There are many opportunities for our “non-motorized snow friends” to enjoy. Feel free to snowshoe our 10 acres of trails right outside your door. Or hit the local trails. MUSHROOM HUNTING

Yes, you read that right! Hiles is the official Mushroom Capitol of Wisconsin. The Little Pine Motel has served as the host for the Wisconsin Mycological Society’s Annual Foray for the past several summers. The Nicolet National Forest and surrounding areas have provided a wonderful hunting ground for mushroom enthusiasts and scientists. The W.M.S. conducts a 3-day foray the 3rd weekend of July each year drawing in ‘hunters’ from all over Wisconsin. Over 120 various species of mushrooms are found in the area with exciting new discoveries each year.
